Cut roofs and roof timbers
Traditional cut roofs pitched and built on site for extensions and new builds, ready for the roofer.

A cut roof is built rafter by rafter on site rather than delivered as trusses. It takes more skill, but it allows for vaulted ceilings, rooms in the roof and shapes that trusses cannot do.
Each rafter is marked out from the pitch, cut with a birdsmouth to sit on the wall plate and fixed to the ridge, so the roof line runs straight from one end to the other.
I work alongside builders and roofers on extensions and new builds across Cornwall.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between a cut roof and trusses?
Trusses are made in a factory and craned on. A cut roof is built from individual rafters on site, which allows vaulted ceilings and more complicated shapes.
Do you work for builders as well as homeowners?
Yes. Roof carpentry is usually part of a bigger build, so I often work alongside a builder.
Do you do the roof covering as well?
No, I build the roof timbers. The covering is done by a roofer.
