Timber decking built to last
Raised and ground-level decks with balustrades and steps, built on a frame that stays solid.

A deck is only as good as the frame under it. The joists are set level on proper supports, spaced so the boards do not flex, and the boards are fixed with a gap so water runs off.
Raised decks need a balustrade, and the one in the photos uses turned spindles and a capped handrail along every open edge.
Cornish weather is hard on outside timber, so the details that shed water matter more here than most places.
Decking: recent jobs
Questions people ask
Can you build a raised deck?
Yes, with a balustrade along the open edges, as in the photo.
How long does decking last?
It depends on the timber and how it is detailed. A well-built frame with good drainage lasts far longer than one that holds water.
Do you need planning permission for decking?
Many ground-level decks do not, but raised decks can. It is worth checking with Cornwall Council for your property.
